china tourismChina tourism – China has been the fastest growing source of tourism in the world over the last 10 years. In 2012 China became the number one tourist source with a US$ 102 billion in spending abroad1. The main reasons behind this new record are1:

  • Fast urbanisation in China
  • Growth of disposable income
  • Reduced foreign travel restrictions for Chinese travellers

Total market – International tourist arrivals2

  • 2012: International tourist arrivals increased by 4% in 2012 to surpass the 1 billion for the first time ever (1.035 billion).
  • 2013 forecast: total market growth is expected between 3% and 4%

  • 2000: 10 million
  • 2012:  83 million

China tourism -  Spending during international trips by Chinese travellers1:

  • 2011: US$ 73 billion
  • 2012: US$ 73 billion

  • Europe is the most visited region in the world
  • 2012: Total arrivals reached 535 million (+17 million versus 2011)
  • The highest growth rates in expenditure came from China (+42%)
